Arbour was behind the Islanders bench for 19 years (1973-1986; 1988-1994 = 1.499 NHL games) and won 4 consecutive Stanley Cup championships from 1980 to 1983.
On November 3rd, he returned as head coach for one game against the Pittsburgh Penguins to coach his 1.500th game for the Islanders.
