The Devils wore this patch during four home games as a memorial to their former headcoach Pat Burns. He died on November 19th, 2010 at the age of 58 due to cancer. Pat Burns coached the Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins and New Jersey Devils. He is the only three-time winner of the the Jack Adams Award and also won the Stanley Cup with the New Jersey Devils in 2003. He retired as headcoach in 2005 and became a special assignment coach for the Devils.
